It’s time for your fall detox

Is it starting to feel like fall where you are? Here in the PNW we’re getting all the fall vibes. The trees are just starting to change colors, the temperature has dropped, we even turned our furnace on for the first time in months. And suddenly I’m craving soup everyday.

I love when the seasons change because it feels like a new beginning. And fall so happens to be my favorite season.

But I’m also always paying attention to when the seasons change because it’s the perfect time to do a reset for the body. Around this time is when I like to do a seasonal Detox.

But why would you want to do a detox? Isn’t that what our liver and kidneys and colon is for?

Well yes actually, but in the world we live in with all the stress, the toxic environment, and often poor diet and lifestyle choices, our poor detox organs are working extra hard and they could use some support.

Let’s just look at some stats:

There have been over 72,000 man-made chemicals created since World War 2. Only 2% of them have been tested for toxicity: mutagenic, carcinogenic or birth defects.

According to the UN, 9 out of 10 people breathe air containing levels of pollutants that exceed World Health Organization limits, and around 7 million people die from diseases and infections related to air pollution.

Mounting research over the last few years have found microplastics in nearly every organ in the body, as well as in the bloodstream and in plaque that clogs arteries.

We have known carcinogens and endocrine disrupting chemicals being used in our food and personal care items. Our food is being sprayed by toxic herbicides and pesticides that damage the gut and wreak havoc on our bodies.

No wonder everyone is struggling with gut health, hormone health, weakened immune systems, and just overall low energy and mood. It’s all connected.

And this toxic state has an impact our nervous system too. When our body isn’t working the way it should because of too much toxicity, it creates an inflammatory state which our nervous system reacts to in the same way it would an external threat.

If we’re toxic, it could be what’s keeping us in a stressed state.

But here’s what makes this even more complicated: we don’t want to make ourselves overly stressed about avoiding every possible harmful toxin in our environment either, because that constant stress can act like a trigger that keeps us in that feedback loop of a constant stress state.

It can feel like an impossible situation.

So what’s the solution?

2 Things:

  1. Minimize your overall exposure as much as you reasonably can (I’ll be doing a future blogpost about this).

  2. Support your body’s detox pathways daily and seasonally.

I’ll get into my seasonal detox in a bit. But first let’s look at how you can support your detox pathways every single day.

What are detox pathways?

These are the pathways our body uses to eliminate toxins from our body.

Toxins are processed through the liver, bound up in bile, and then eliminated through our stool. They are processed through the kidneys and excreted in urine. They are also gathered up by the lymphatic system and eliminated through the stool or urine. The lungs are also working hard every day by eliminating toxins through our exhale. And we also eliminate toxins via the skin through sweat.

We can support these pathways every single day in these ways (a lot of these things apply to multiple pathways):

Liver and Gall Bladder:

Lungs:

  • Diaphragmatic breathing

  • Using an air filter. We love the Air Doctor: www.airdoctor.com

  • Get out into nature

  • Daily exercise

Kidney and Bladder:

  • Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces daily

  • Use a quality water filter.

  • Manage your electrolyte balance. (Add a pinch of sea salt to your lemon water)

  • Epsom salt baths

Colon and Digestive System:

Skin:

  • Dry Brushing

  • Sunlight exposure

  • Infrared sauna therapy

  • Replace endocrine disrupting skincare products.

Lymph:

  • Daily body movement

  • Dry Brushing

  • Alternating cold/hot shower

  • Use a rebounder

  • Use a vibration plate. I use this one: https://amzn.to/3B5EeX1

And I know, that sounds like a lot! I’ve been working on this list for a very long time. If you’re just starting out, focus on these areas:

  • Hydrate

  • Get daily movement

  • Have regular bowel movements

  • Prioritize quality sleep.

Notice how each of those things are really for overall health? Supporting your detox pathways is one of the biggest reasons why!

But even if you’re doing all of these things, given our stress levels and environment, I still recommend a seasonal detox.

Here are my two favorites:

First, my favorite and most thorough detox that is also very gentle is the 7 Day Dr. Cabral Detox. I’ve been doing this detox seasonally for many years. I’ve tried multiple other detoxes over the years, and this one not only covers all the bases, is easy to use, is a great cost, and is also incredibly beneficial and effective.

Dr. Cabral gives this detox to most of his clients to start their healing process, regardless of what their symptoms are. This is because most people need to clean up their system before their body can actually heal.

It’s functional medicine and Ayurvedic based, and supports all of the detox pathways.

I just finished the 7 day detox and I feel amazing. I lost about 5 lbs of inflammation, my energy levels are up, and my body just feels clean. I feel amazing every time I finish this detox.

I’ll be running a group detox in January so stay tuned for that, but in the meantime if you want to try it out on your own, you can get it here: Dr. Cabral Detox

If the 7 Day Detox sounds a little intimidating to start out with, this 3 Day Reboot from Amare is my other favorite detox.

It is incredibly gentle and couldn’t be easier. You eat a simple but clean diet for 3 days and take these herbal supplements that support your liver, kidneys, and bowels.

If you’ve never done a detox before then this is the perfect place to start. I use this 3 day reboot occasionally when I feel like my system needs a boost or reset.

Did you know that you can dramatically change your microbiome in only 3 days?

So many people drop 3-5 pounds of inflammation and feel energized and clear headed after just 3 days of this mini detox.

And the best part? For new customers its only $17!

I’m helping to run a group that’s doing it together the first week of October. Message back with questions or grab your Reboot+ and I’ll make sure you get added to the group detox: https://amare.com/g10/1591185/p/rb

It’s the little daily things that can add up to whether or not you live a long and healthy life. If you want to improve your physical and mental health, you want to start paying attention to what you’re putting in and on your body.

All we can do is our best. I love doing these detoxes because it gives me the peace of mind to know I’m doing what I can to support my body.

Let me know if you have any questions!
